Instruction for Hinode data users


Let us stress that the entire Hinode operation relies on public funding, and it is extremely important for us to produce outputs that are visible and accountable, in continuing the current stable and fruitful operation which we hope the scientific community enjoys. As an attempt to ensure this, we would like to present two sets of rules/guidelines.

The first set concerns what you do when you write papers using Hinode data. Please consider this set as rigid rules that you are expected to follow, although there is no way of enforcing them. They are:

  1. Acknowledgements
    When you write a paper, please inculde the standard acknowledgment sentences to Hinode, which are found here.
  2. Instrumentation papers
    Please also refer to the relevant instrumentation papers listed here.
  3. Entry to publication list
    When your paper is accepted, or when you make a presentation at a conference or hold a press conference on your result, please let us know by sending email to publ_hinode (at) hinode.nao.ac.jp. [more detail...]

The second set concerns what we would very much like you to do when you use Hinode data. They are:

  1. Tell relevant instrument PI(s) what you are working on.
  2. We have set up a website so that you can tell us about your project through the site rather than contacting PI(s) directly. [more detail...]
This is partly to our benefit, particularly in protecting exsiting and potential Ph.D. thesis projects. Also, if your project coincides with one that core team members are working on, that can lead to a fruitful collaboration. This will also work as a way for you to gain better insights into Hinode data.

  • Acknowledgement to Hinode

    When you publish your work on Hinode data, we would like to ask you to acknowledge the Hinode mission as follows.

    Hinode is a Japanese mission developed and launched by ISAS/JAXA, with NAOJ as domestic partner and NASA and STFC (UK) as international partners. It is operated by these agencies in co-operation with ESA and NSC (Norway).

    We would be grateful if you could place more detailed acknowledgement.

    Hinode is a Japanese mission developed and launched by ISAS/JAXA, collaborating with NAOJ as a domestic partner, NASA and STFC (UK) as international partners. Scientific operation of the Hinode mission is conducted by the Hinode science team organized at ISAS/JAXA. This team mainly consists of scientists from institutes in the partner countries. Support for the post-launch operation is provided by JAXA and NAOJ (Japan), STFC (U.K.), NASA, ESA, and NSC (Norway).

  • Acknowledgement to Solar Data Analysis System (SDAS)

    If your work is carried out by using the resourses of SDAS/ADC at NAOJ, please acknowledge SDAS.

    This work was (partly) carried out on the Solar Data Analysis System operated by the Astronomy Data Center in cooperation with the Hinode Science Center of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan.
