Unified View of Solar and Stellar Flares : Can Superflares Occur on Our Sun ?
It has recently been revealed that superflares (with energy more than 10^33 erg) occur ubiquitously on solar type stars (Maehara et al. 2012, Shibayama et al. 2013). Among them, it was found that even solar type stars with slow rotation (20-30 days rotational period) seem to produce superflares, suggesting the possibility of superflares on our present Sun (Shibata et al. 2013). It should also be stressed that there are increasing evidence that fractal magnetic reconnection is occurring both in solar and stellar environments (Shibata and Takasao 2016). In this talk, I will introduce latest development of research on superflares on solar type stars (Notsu et al. 2019).
