Experimental turbulent transport study with gradients and mean-flow

Three-dimensional isotropic turbulence in nature often breaks the symmetry due to gradient such as temperature, diffucivity, turbulent intensity and mean-flows as well. In such complex systems, a variety of structure formations are observed in turbulent state. In order to investigate turbulent transport characteristics with symmetry breaking in turbulence, we demonstrated that the diffusivity gradient and a mean-flow can be produced in electro-convection turbulence. In the meeting, the purpose of this experiment, experimental setup, recent results on the turbulent transport study in electroconvection are discussed.
