Solar dynamo: achievements and perspective

One of the most prominent features of the solar magnetic field is the solar cycle. While it is widely thought that the large-scale magnetic field is generated in the solar interior, the details of the physical mechanism have not been understood well. The complicated interaction between the thermal convection, rotation, and magnetic field causes a coherent solar cycle. In the last two decades, three-dimensional convection simulation with covering the whole convection zone is achieved, and the simulations shed lights on understanding the generation of the differential rotation, large-scale magnetic field, and the cycle. The numerical models still have discrepancies with the observations. In the presentation, I summarize the current achievement of the understanding and the future perspective of the solar dynamo problem.
